From Massachusetts to Hollywood

by Matt Boren

As some of you might know I grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts and one of the great treasures from my childhood is my friend Missy.

To understand my love for Missy you need first to understand my love for my brother, David.

David was and will forever be my idol. There was no one cooler when I was a kid and as the father of three amazing sons, I would say there is still no one cooler than my big brother. And David’s best friend from childhood was Missy.

Missy basically lived at our house and she was my champion. In a very sports driven town, Missy was always in my corner supporting my artistic endeavors and that meant the world to me considering my brother was, in my eyes, Wayne Gretzky.

It was because of my brother that I was and will forever be linked to Missy. If you want to know more about Missy, email me and I will send you one of a handful of scripts I have written based on her. She has everything you want in a central character and her description perfectly fits a character breakdown — Missy is brilliantly funny, quick-witted, takes no prisoners and yes, she has a heart of gold.

Today, my friend Missy brought her two sons, Sam and Jack, to Paramount Studios so they could watch one of my table reads. I toured them around and showed them our sets on Stage 19. Missy and her family live in D.C. And have never seen behind the scenes of a TV show. It was thrilling for me to see their excitement and it was thrilling for Missy to see me living my dream. A dream she has known about since elementary school.

When Missy and her kids left the studio, I had a big moment. I rarely if ever take a step back and look at the reality of living a dream. For any of us, any dreamer who carries the dream like a beacon light, like a life-line, and works toward it — to be in it is something to smile about. And thanks to my friend, Missy, I remembered that.
